Mission for Our Clients
Our mission: to help our clients earn competitive returns while they promote a transformation of our economic enterprises.
Clients benefit from two sets of ethical criteria by which we rule in companies that meet high standards (such as alternative energy leaders) while we rule out industries such as military contracting, use of child labor, and production of tobacco and alcohol.
We offer our clients the chance to invest drawing on the best strategies in the industry while also working to bring about a future we can leave to our children in good conscience.
Vision for the World
Our vision: a world in which all businesses give priority to the common good with the result that they yield better returns not only to shareholders, but to all stakeholders. We aim to help our clients earn competitive returns while serving as champions of this transformation.
Specifically, we invest in companies with respectful labor practices that create such necessities as clean tech, alternative energy, and clean water. All the while, we lead an ever larger number of corporations to choose to become common good corporations and to engage in community investing. (See section on “What We Do for a Better World.”)
How we do it:
We custom tailor stock and bond* portfolios based on asset class investing according to modern portfolio theory. (Clicking on this term will send you to an explanation in plain English provided by Investopedia.) The asset classes we incorporate are: stocks, bonds, real estate, commodities, as well as company size and geographic location – developed and emerging markets.
In addition, we offer a hedging strategy applying a conservative options technique.
Our holdings satisfy not only financial criteria, but also ethical standards. In choosing funds, we consider the biological sustainability of our natural environment and the social sustainability of our shared communities.
We do this by:
- Offering clients access to community investing – investing to end poverty through such initiatives as microfinance, agricultural cooperatives, and low-income housing.
- Using shareholder activism to improve the practices of companies that do not satisfy social criteria by a small margin.
- Encouraging an ever larger number of corporations to become publicly identified as “common good corporations.”
StakeHolders is uniquely able to offer these services by virtue of the expertise of our founding team — which consists of a founder of the socially responsible investing movement, and two seasoned options traders who are financial planners.
*portfolios generally include some real estate and commodity exposure and we mainly use mutual funds, not individual stocks and bonds.
